Is Cote-St-Luc, Montreal a good place to live?

I found a really nice apartment near a school in that area.. Its close to Concordia without being downtown so I decided to go for it. I've seen people write things about cote-st-luc, or NDG as being a dangerous place. Should I change my mind and go somewhere else? Is it safe for a young female?
