What is spray lacquer?

I`ve spray painted an old solid fibreglass rod blank with Plasti-cote tin spray, and was advised to finish with clear acrylic spray lacquer for added protection. Is lacquer the same as varnish ? I`ve allready bought "plasti-cote super clear" but am unsure if this is the right stuff to use.
